Swamp Thing was a low-selling horror comic when Alan Moore took it over, transforming it into a supernatural/weird science epic that defined DC's "mature" Vertigo Comics. Here, Swamp Thing discovers that he's not Alec Holland turned into a plant but rather he's a plant that thinks its Alec Holland, due to a weird chemical accident. He becomes the guardian of all plant life on Earth. The first 10 issues are reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing.
